Brian K. Murphy
Brian
has been a student of photography for nearly 20 years. The pursuit of
unique subject matter and perspectives has been a passion and is the primary
reason for his devotion to black and white photography. Brian's compositions
pay homage to both natural splendor and man-made beauty as is evident
in his balance of urban and natural works.
Brian draws the viewer into his photography with striking illumination
and unconventional perspectives. His photography follows the foundations
of fine art by emphasizing form, value and composition. This is often
accomplished by altering the angle of view - as is evident is his "Looking
Up" study and by experimenting with natural light and negative space.
"Photography is a way of simplifying the cluttered world that bombards
us visually everyday. Extracting the elements that evoke emotion and create
atmosphere is what makes photography an art form. In my photography, I
am trying to capture both the obvious and the overlooked in a way that
creates a distinct focal point and flow that engages the viewer."
Brian has traveled the world extensively in pursuit of striking images.
His work is in private and public collections in Canada and the United
States including, Johnson & Johnson, Publicis Groupe and
Eastman Kodak.
